The Project:
The North Sutherland Heath & Social Care Hub project will provide a new care facility to replace the existing Melvich and Caladh Sona care homes and the GP centre in Tongue, operated by NHS Highland. It will be located in Tongue and will consist of a new state of the art residential care facility, integrated care team services and a new GP surgery. It will meet the needs of the community for years to come.
The North Sutherland Heath & Social Care Hub is an ambitious partnership between The Highland Council, NHS Highland and Wildland.
Wildland
Wildland has a 200 year vision of landscape-scale conservation in the Scottish Highlands. Through our custodianship of three significant Scottish estates, we work to let nature heal, grow and thrive. As a stakeholder in the community here in North Sutherland, we are delighted to be assisting with this ambitious and essential project. Our hope is that the North Sutherland Health & Social Care Hub will be a resource the whole community can be proud of for generations to come.
The Highland Council
The Highland Council and NHS Highland entered into a Partnership Agreement in 2012, establishing the principle of, and arrangements for, service integration in relation to both children’s and adult health and social care services within a lead agency model, with the NHS Board taking responsibility for adult health and social care services and Highland Council taking responsibility for children’s health and social care services.
Through that agreement, the Council retains the responsibility for capital investment into Adult Social Care facilities operated by NHS Highland. The Council, in October 2021, made financial commitment to the capital funding of the Adult Social Care element of the new Hub, and has continued to work in partnership with NHS Highland and Wildland to progress delivery of the new Hub.
